Lunkarya at Cavyland

The Lunkarya is a new, and  extremely rare in the UK, only I, and two other people have them as this article is written, but they are not new breed in Europe where they have been bred for many years.

Lunkayra are a curly longhaired cavy with hair that grows continuously at around 1" per month. They differ from alpacas in that the curly gene is dominant, and the coat is much much rougher. In their nature they are placid, friendly, cheeky.

Although Lunkayra need regular trimming and combing I wouldn't say they are beyond any responsible cavy owner. To me EVERY cavy needs regular attention, and if you cant give the cavy regular trims, maybe you shouldn't have a cavy at all ! No breed can be left in a hutch and just fed.... they need to be handled, so during handling the routine care can take place

Lunkarya come in 3 varieties, in Europe these are called Lunkarya Peruvian, Lunkarya Coronet & Lunkarya Sheltie.

The Standard for the Lunkarya as used in the Swedish Cavy Fancy
